Action #004

Learn basic first aid

This action has been done 8,611 times which means 8,611 schools, homes or number 23 buses are safer places.

It can take just four minutes for someone with a blocked airway to die, but eight minutes for an ambulance crew to arrive. In a two hour training course you can learn how to save that life immediately. The idea of saving someone's life is amazing. Especially when you realise that statistically the person you help is likely to be a friend or relative. Imagine saving your best friend's life.

    First aid course

I did a first aid course a few months ago and found the course itself very fun. I feel good about being able to perform basic first aid and sometimes secretly wish that people around me so I could perform first aid on them :)
This cropped up in discussion the other day (we were talking about which songs to sing while doing CPR, you'll know what I mean if you've done a course!) and I managed to convince a few of my friends to give it a go and they are now going to sign up for a course over the holidays.

    At School...

At my school everyone has the chance to get a HeartStart qualification. This basically was what to do if someone is unconsious, and CPR. I also spent my own time with my mum learning about all sorts of other things as she was a nurse and a St. Johns Amblluance instructor. It's good to knwo that you'd know what to do in a situation, and that your school friend do to, if ever (god forbid) that it was you who was in that situation. 28 October 2009, 14:45

I took a first aid course while I was at High School & felt much better once I'd done it - I'd be much more confident on what to do now if I ever needed to. 09 July 2009, 20:32
