Competition Judging
There will be two main stages to the competition judging:
1. After 2nd January 2008, ten finalists from each UK region will be chosen by We Are What We Do.
2. From the regional finalists will be chosen a selection of national winners and an overall winner. This will be done by a judging panel made up of the We Are What We Do team and a selection of high profile judges.
We Are What We Do and the judging panel will be thinking about these things when they judge the entries:
a) The votes given to the action by users on the website
We'll tally up the votes and use this as a stating point for picking the best actions. But, if your action didn't get lots of votes, don't worry as we might still pick it out as a regional finalist.
b) The potential impact of the action
The main criteria for finding regional finalists and national winners will be the power of the action to make a positive difference to the world. The action should be something that will make a small difference if one person does it and a huge difference if lots of people did it. It could make a positive difference to anything, from your family and friends, to your community, to an important global issue, to the environment.
c) The simplicity of the action
The winning actions will be very simple and easy to do. Ideally, actions will be part of everyday life and could easily become part of a normal routine.
d) Everybody can do it
The best actions will be accessible and inclusive - giving everyone the chance to participate, regardless of their age, background, income, religion or politics.
e) The originality of the action
We Are What We Do came up with 100 actions that went into our first two books, Change the World for a Fiver and Change the World 9 to 5. You can take a look at them here. The winning actions in the competition will be different from these ones. But, they cover lots of issues, like recycling and shopping, that you might want to make part of your action, and that's absolutely fine. You can even use one of the original actions as inspiration and give it a makeover so it becomes more relevant to you and your friends.
f) Creativity
Along with the action, you will be submitting a picture and how creative and exciting this picture is will also be part of the judging. The photos could be of people doing the action, of the change the action could make or of a piece of art, large or small. We'll be looking for pictures that bring the action to life and can inspire people with its power.
